SUMNER COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) — The 17-year-old suspect charged in a Macon County teen's death will be tried as an adult, according to a Sumner County judge.
On Monday, a judge told News 2 that the case has been moved to Sumner County and that 17-year-old Fernando Perales Mejia will be tried as an adult for his connection to the death of Trinity Bostic.
Trinity Bostic went missing on June 29. Four days later, a subcontractor with the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) was picking up trash and found her remains in the woods near Vietnam Veteran’s Boulevard near New Shackle Road.
Those remains were identified as Bostic's through dental records. Police added that she was found with a bullet wound in her face.
Mejia was arrested on first-degree murder charges a week after Bostic went missing. Hendersonville police reportedly searched Mejia’s home and found a “go bag” with Mejia’s things and a loaded gun in his closest.
Law enforcement said they also found a gun in Mejia’s car and the gun’s ammunition matched the bullet casings that were found at the scene.
