NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — A woman is behind bars after she allegedly shined a laser into a police helicopter over the weekend from an apartment complex in Madison.
According to court documents, officers were sent to an apartment complex in the 600 block of Cheyenne Boulevard just before midnight on Saturday, Aug. 10, to respond to reports of an individual shining a laser into the cockpit of a MNPD helicopter.
Police said when they arrived, they found two individuals in the back of the complex by a dumpster.
One of the individuals was searched, but officers said he only had a small flashlight in his possession. As law enforcement tried detaining the woman, she allegedly told them that she "had done nothing wrong" and wanted to go back to her apartment.
Authorities later identified the woman as 43-year-old Amanda McDonald and discovered that she had three outstanding warrants for her arrest after running her name through a database.
As she was being arrested, she attempted to pass a silver device to the man which fell to the ground, police said.
According to court documents, the silver device was a blue light laser which matched the device that was used to shine a laser beam into the helicopter's cockpit.
The pilot said the blue laser "impaired his vision as well as his partner's, which placed them in fear of serious bodily injury."
While speaking with officers, the pilot allegedly described the suspect as a woman wearing all red or pink, which reportedly matched the clothing McDonald was wearing.
She was taken into custody and charged with two counts of aggravated assault on an officer in addition to her outstanding warrants.
McDonald is being held in Metro Jail on a $50,000 bond.
