HAWKINS COUNTY, Tenn. (WJHL) — Award-winning dirt track race car driver Scott Bloomquist has died after a plane crash in Hawkins County Friday.
According to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), a single-engine Piper J3 crashed into a barn near Mooresburg around 7:50 a.m.
The Hawkins County Sheriff's Office confirmed to News Channel 11 that Bloomquist died as a result of the crash. He was the only occupant of the plane.
Bloomquist, born in Iowa, was a nationally touring Dirt Super Late Model race car driver.
The sheriff's office and FAA are continuing to investigate the circumstances of the crash.
