NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Rain and storms will be likely for Middle Tennessee through Sunday morning. At times, some of the storms could be strong or severe due to the rich humid air in our region. After the cold front arrives on Sunday, temperatures cool down into the 70s and 80s for the start of next week.

On Friday, the entire News 2 viewing area is under a Marginal Risk (level 1/5) of strong storms. On Saturday, the Marginal Risk (level 1/5) continues with now our northeast counties (Southern KY along/east of I-65 and northeast Middle TN) are under a Slight Risk (level 2/5).

With increased humidity and moisture, an approaching cold front, and warm/unstable air, a few strong storms are possible. The primary risk is gusty winds, but heavy rain, hail are possible. The tornado risk is extremely low at this time.
Heat and the storm timing

A Heat Advisory has been issued for multiple counties at different times. Until 7 p.m. in Giles, Wayne, Lawrence, Hickman, Houston, Humphreys, Lewis and Perry counties, where temperatures could feel like up to 106°. Lincoln county has a Heat Advisory until 5 p.m. Friday with feels like temperatures up to 107°. Benton, Carroll, Decatur, and Henry counties are under the advisory until 9 p.m. Friday with feels like temperatures up to 109°.

Friday afternoon and evening
Significant daytime heating and moisture will support scattered strong to severe storms in the evening on Friday. While not all areas will see the storms, prepare for a very humid end to the day. Rain ending late evening.
Saturday
A break in the rain Friday night, but more could occur early Saturday morning. During the day, there may not be much storm action. However, newest model data suggests that with the cold front on Saturday evening, a line of gusty and strong storms will dive into Southern Kentucky and Middle Tennessee. Therefore, while the Tennessee Titans second pre-season game versus the Seattle Seahawks may start dry, it may end with storms in the area. This will be accompanied with a cold front to lower the rain chance and bring slightly less humid air to our region into next week.
Within heavier storms, rain amounts could reach over one inch. On average through Sunday, rain amounts under an inch for most areas.
