PORTLAND, Tenn. (WKRN) — A fugitive wanted on serious charges involving a child was arrested in Sumner County and taken back to Salina, Kansas where the alleged crime took place.

Earlier this month, deputies with the Sumner County Sheriff's Office (SCSO) and Portland police officers got intelligence that the suspect, Roy Lee Grover, was hiding in a small camper on a piece of land just outside of Portland, Tennessee.

On September 6, officers went to that camper and arrested the 55-year-old accused of serious sex crimes against a small Kansas child.

Body camera footage from the Portland Police Department showed the officers approaching the trailer with weapons extended. They knocked on the side of the camper and ordered Glover to surrender multiple times. When an officer asked Glover if anybody else was inside the camper, he said that he was alone.

According to investigators, Glover was wanted for felony aggravated criminal sodomy and aggravated indecent liberties with a child.

"You have a warrant out of Kansas. Well, we'll explain that later," a deputy told Glover on the body camera footage. "You've got a warrant and we're going to take you to the county jail and they're going to come and pick you up."

According to Kansas investigators, Glover fled the state before they could arrest him. Investigators added that Glover's car was entered into the National Crime Information Center. That car was spotted multiple times driving around Sumner County.

Kansas investigators reached out to interim Portland police chief Jason Arnold, whose officers joined the SCSO and helped arrest the wanted fugitive without incident.

"He obviously fled Kansas for a reason," Arnold told News 2. "He was hiding in a camper on property I believe belonged to his family."

Jail officials in both Sumner County and Saline County, Kansas confirmed that Glover was picked up early Wednesday morning from Gallatin.

As of publication, he is in transit back to the Sunflower State to face his charges there.
