NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — The U.S. Attorney for the Middle District of Tennessee addressed Tennessee's voters in a video message on Friday, stressing the importance of free and fair elections.
Henry Leventis explained the role that the Department of Justice (DOJ) plays on election day, including limiting foreign interference in elections and preventing voter suppression.
"Free, fair, secure and accessible elections are the foundation of our democracy," Leventis said.
"Voting is the cornerstone of our democracy," Leventis said. "We work to make sure that everyone who is entitled to vote gets to vote and those who seek to corrupt the election process are brought to justice."
Leventis gave viewers some steps to take on election day:
- "Make a plan: know when, where and how you will vote."
- "Seek out election information from trustworthy sources."
- "Report any potential election crimes to the FBI."
"If someone is in imminent danger or at risk of harm, contact 911 or your local police immediately," Leventis added. "If you think you or someone else's voting rights have been violated, report that to the Department of Justice's Civil Rights Division. If you're not sure whether something is a crime, report it to both the FBI and the Civil Rights Division."
