TROUSDALE COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) — A trooper with the Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) was shot during a traffic stop in July, but on Friday, he was escorted home for the weekend.
Trooper Adam Cothron was shot point-blank on the side of Interstate 40 in Putnam County and has spent much time recovering in an Atlanta rehabilitation center. Cothron is spending this weekend in Tennessee, though, and several area agency partners helped escort him home.
Witnesses told News 2 that as Cothron's procession passed a high school football game, the game was paused and attendees cheered.
Braze Rucker and Timothy L. Davis, Jr. were taken into custody separately following the shooting. On October 4, they appeared in a Cookeville courtroom for a preliminary hearing, during which body camera video was played, showing the moment that shots were fired towards Cothron. The trial is set to go to a grand jury.
