RUTHERFORD COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) — Rutherford County residents have been exposed to the 2040 Major Transportation Plan, and on Thursday, they got a chance to speak to leaders about it.

Officials are aggressively looking at public service, water availability and collaboration with the fire police and police departments as they prepare for growth. The plan is to create a roadmap of land use, transportation and housing for the next 20 years.

Rutherford County planning director, Doug Demousi, said that the county as a whole is quickly approaching 400,000 people. He added that he expects the population to surpass at some point in the near future.

“It’s a booming area,” Demousi said. “...As Nashville has been expanding, so have we. We have our own economy here as well that’s been expanding, so it’s just been constant here over the last 20 to 30 years and beyond.”

Demousi admitted that not some viewers did not agree with every proposal in the plan, but he assured the public that this is one of many opportunities for input. The 2040 Major Transportation Plan was developed and public meetings were held in each of the four quadrants of the city to engage citizen feedback.
