NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Sunday capped off a weekend of multiple Halloween events across Middle Tennessee, including Pumpkin Fest at Camp Widjiwagan.
“It’s a great event just because it's such a big campus and it's a beautiful place for families and kids to come out, whether they’ve been here since they were little kids or they’re just thinking about coming to camp. It's a beautiful place, it's a great day out here, it's a good way to come get some candy, relieve some energy for the kids," said Adam Dyer, a camp spokesperson.
About 300 kids came out to Camp Widjiwagan on Sunday, Oct. 27 for a family-friendly day featuring candy, live music, games, and even ziplining.
For many families, this weekend was a preview to even more fun planned for Thursday, Oct. 31
With safety top of mind for the holiday, the Tennessee Department of Correction (TDOC) will be conducting "Operation Blackout" on Thursday.
Officials said probation parole officers across the state will be visiting homes of sex offenders under TDOC supervision whose convictions involved children to make sure they're following the special rules put in place for Halloween.
The Murfreesboro Police Department also recommends giving children a flashlight or glowstick when trick-or-treating, reminding children to never run into the street without looking both ways first, and warning them not to enter a stranger's home or vehicle.
