GALLATIN, Tenn. (WKRN) -- A drive-by shooting Wednesday night left a Gallatin house peppered with bullet holes. The next morning, a vehicle believed to be involved in the incident was found in a lake. Now, police are turning to the public for help tracking down the suspects.

The Gallatin Police Department said multiple people got out of a vehicle and opened fire on a home along Demoss Street with at least three different guns around 11:15 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 30. More than 20 bullets were fired at and into the house.

Body camera footage shows officers investigating the incident after arriving at the scene. Authorities found shell casings on the road, as well as multiple bullet holes in the door, windows, and side of the home.

Once inside, law enforcement discovered more evidence of gunfire.

"Yeah, this one went through the wall here," an officer said. "This one went through the door."

"We had somebody brazen enough to stand out in the street and fire into a house 20-plus rounds," said Capt. Lamar Ballard with the Gallatin Police Department.

Two people were in the house at the time of the shooting, but neither of them got hurt.

A woman who lives at the home was obviously shaken following the incident: "It's crazy. I was in there sleeping and something, I just heard something...I said, 'Oh my God.' I said, 'I've got to sleep.' I ain't never had this happen."

According to Ballard, casings from three different caliber weapons -- a 9 mm, a .45-caliber, and a .40-caliber -- were found at the crime scene.

On Thursday, Oct. 31, a red Jeep Compass was found partially submerged in the Lock 4 section of Old Hickory Lake, offering another clue in the shooting case.

"It appears that somebody actually drove it into the lake, hoping it would sink," Ballard said.

Investigators said the Jeep was stolen out of Gallatin and then used in the drive-by shooting. Authorities found casings inside the vehicle that matched the ones from Demoss Street.

"There's no doubt that vehicle was used in our shooting," Ballard added.

When News 2 asked about so many shots being fired at a house in a congested neighborhood, the captain replied, "I mean, this is a heavily populated residence, and you've got somebody that's brazen enough to stand there and just shoot into a house multiple times, we're going to put all of our resources into finding who this is."

As for motive, police said the crime is believed to be drug-related or gang-related.

If you have any information about Wednesday night's drive-by shooting, you're urged to call the Gallatin Police Department at 615-452-1313.
