(NEXSTAR) – Donald Trump is projected to claim the presidency, defeating Kamala Harris to win a second, improbable term, according to a Decision Desk HQ projection on News Nation just after 1 a.m. Wednesday.
The call was made after DDHQ projected Trump to have won both Pennsylvania and Alaska, giving him 270 electoral votes.
"This was a movement like nobody's ever seen before," Trump said while claiming victory in an address of supporters in West Palm Beach, Florida. "We made history for a reason tonight, and the reason is going to be just that we overcame obstacles that nobody thought possible."
It was a historic election with Trump becoming the first president in well over 100 years to lose a presidential election and then mount a successful presidential campaign in non-consecutive terms. The last to do it was President Grover Cleveland in 1892.
Trump thanked his family, his running mate and Vice President-elect J.D. Vance, members of his campaign and his supporters as he celebrated the moment in the early hours of the morning.
"This is the most important job in the world," said Trump, who spoke at length about his positive vision for the future. "I will govern by a simple motto: promises made, promises kept."
The highly-anticipated contest follows a wild four years that included two assassination attempts against Trump, a mob of Trump supporters storming the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6 and the late entry of Vice President Kamala Harris into the race.
