PORTLAND, Tenn. (WKRN) - A student at Portland East Middle School was hit by a car during dismissal Monday afternoon.
A spokesperson for Sumner County Schools told News 2 the student was hit by the vehicle while trying to approach it in the school's car rider line during dismissal.

The Portland Police Department, Portland Fire Department, and Sumner County EMS immediately responded to the school and provided assistance to the student, who was conscious, speaking, and mobile while being loaded into an ambulance, according to officials.
The student was stable and taken to the hospital for treatment.
The Sumner County Sheriff's Office is investigating how the crash happened.
