NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — The first taste of the winter cold is here, and for portions of Tennessee, it won't just feel like winter, it will look that way.

A parade of cold fronts are bringing colder temperatures into the Volunteer State. Thursday, Friday, and Saturday mornings will feature air cold enough to support snow.

Forecast models are showing the best chance for flakes to fly is overnight Thursday into Friday morning. It isn't much, but some folks could see flurries.

On the Cumberland Plateau, there is a chance for some of those flurries to accumulate on grassy and elevated surfaces. On Friday morning higher elevations on the plateau could wake up to a dusting of snow!

Higher snow amounts are more likely in the highest elevations in East Tennessee. On the mountain tops along the Tennessee-North Carolina state line, a few inches of snow is possible.

This is no surprise for that part of the state. This time of year snow is common for locations above 4,000 feet.

Snow is not common this time of year for much of Middle Tennessee. Nashville's average first measurable snowfall isn't until Christmas Eve. There have only been 16 years since 1950 when Nashville saw measurable snow before December. That means we see measurable snow before December about one in every five years.

If you are hoping for snow in Middle Tennessee, be patient: we will have more opportunities this winter!
