'It's been a nightmare': Family of missing teacher concerned, but not giving up hope

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — One family's concern grows after a teacher never showed up for work last week.

The Metro Nashville Police Department (MNPD) was alerted after 64-year-old Gerardo Behori did not show up to work. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) issued a Silver Alert for him.

"He loves teaching," his son Marco Behori told News 2. "He loves showing up for class, so I think that was really what set it off — him not notifying the school that he wasn't going to be in."

Marco and his family have put up flyers all over Davidson County for Gerardo. The MNPD said he was last seen on Nov. 15 when he left from his job at Republic High School in a Lyft.

"This really shouldn't be anybody's story," Madina Behori, his daughter, said. "Nobody should go out like this and it's been a nightmare for our family, but we're going to get through it together."

"We're unsure if he was meeting any friends [or] if he was alone," Marco added. "We have some ideas on where he would hang out."

Investigators said that Gerard was dropped off near Opry Mills Mall that evening. The last text message that anyone received from him was sent on Nov. 17. Officers added that his cell phone last pinged from a cell phone tower in the same area.

"It's unusual for him not to have contact with anyone in the family, friends or he has a girlfriend over in Spain and he hasn't reached out to anyone," MNPD detective Elizabeth Mills said.

Overall, Gerardo's family is concerned about his health and safety, but they haven't given up hope.

"We're going to be spending Thanksgiving looking for our father," Madina said. "It's definitely not what we planned to do, but we are just grateful to be together — my brother and I — and we're not giving up."

Marco said that the family would primarily be searching in Nashville for their father, unsure when the search would end.

Gerardo is 5'7" and weighs 150 pounds. He has black hair and brown eyes. f you see Gerardo, or know of his whereabouts, you're asked to call the MNPD at (615) 862-8600 or the TBI at 1-800-TBI-FIND.
