NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Charges have been brought against a man for his role in a crash on Interstate 24 that led to the death of a 22-year-old in April.
Daniel Lorenzo Tyler, 26, was arrested on Nov. 30 and charged with vehicular homicide and reckless endangerment.
According to court documents, the crash occurred on April 28 just after 11:45 p.m. in South Nashville. Tyler was reportedly driving a Dodge Charger along I-24 East with two passengers, one in the front seat and the other in the backseat.
Witnesses reported the Dodge was driving recklessly, reaching speeds over 100 mph and attempting to pass other vehicles by using the left shoulder.
An investigation determined the Dodge struck a concrete median while on the shoulder attempting to pass the vehicles. Tyler reportedly attempted to merge back onto the interstate but lost control and the Dodge began to spin. It traveled backward off the right side of the interstate, through the grass and hit a rock wall with the back of the vehicle. The car continued to travel for a short period of time before coming to a stop on the right side of the road.
The backseat passenger, 22-year-old Roby Ameer, was declared dead at the scene. Tyler suffered minor injuries and the front seat passenger was not injured.
Driving data from the Dodge obtained by police showed Tyler was driving at 104 mph less than five seconds before the crash in a 55 mph speed limit zone, reports said.
The arrest comes after MNPD announced in September that Tyler was wanted for his involvement in the crash. He is being held in Metro jail on a $13,000 bond.
