3 charged after helicopter pursuit on I-65

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Three men were taken into custody after reportedly fleeing from a traffic stop on Interstate 65 in Nashville Thursday night.

Metro police reported a detective spotted a Nissan Maxima swerving while traveling southbound on I-65 near Trinity Lane around 9 p.m. According to court documents, the Maxima was tracked traveling at 75 mph in a 55 mph zone between Trinity Lane and the Fern Street overpass.

The detective attempted to pull the Maxima over near the Rosa L. Parks exit but the sedan reportedly sped away. The officer did not follow the car but rather the Metro helicopter tracked the Maxima until it stopped at an apartment complex on 26th Avenue North in North Nashville.

The helicopter crew saw three men run from the vehicle, the driver of which was carrying a box while the two others carried backpacks, according to court documents. Officers were able to take the three men into custody.

During a search, officers reportedly recovered a shoe box containing 367 grams of marijuana, 11 grams of methamphetamine and 21 grams of amphetamine pills. A Versace backpack contained 60 grams of marijuana, 15 Oxycodone pills, 12 grams of cocaine, plastic baggies, a digital scale, four Valium pills, a Glock 9mm loaded with 14 rounds of ammunition and a Polymer80 pistol with 11 rounds of ammunition, according to an arrest warrant.

Another backpack reportedly held eight grams of cocaine.

Matthew Wilson, 31, Corey Gordon, 28, and 20-year-old Brian Neal were booked into the Metro jail and charged with felony drug and weapons possession. Their bonds were set at $86,500.
