NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — A Nashville middle schooler has been charged with making a threat of mass violence, the Metro Nashville Police Department (MNPD) announced Wednesday.
The 13-year-old McKissack Middle School student reportedly became upset and "threatened to shoot a staff member and other students."
"Threats against schools, special events and businesses are taken very seriously by the MNPD," the MNPD added in a press release. "Those responsible, once identified, will be prosecuted."
Wednesday's arrest is one of dozens made by the MNPD for school threats this past year. In October, a juvenile judge urged parents to talk about the seriousness of making school threats. Additionally, expulsions related to school threats have increased in some districts.
The increase is related to a law that went into effect in Jul y 2023 making threats against schools a "zero-tolerance offense."
