NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — In the heart of Centennial Park, there's a Christmas tree unlike any other you'll see this December.

Each ornament on the tree represents a Davidson County homicide victim.

"It can be a beautiful celebration to help you through the holidays," Judy Davis told News 2. "I just wish everybody would take advantage of it."

Judy and Ed Davis lost their son 28-year-old son Chris in 2005. He was murdered while working security at a store.

"For every victim of violence or victim of homicide, there's a family left behind to grieve," Ed said.

They added they've been coming to the Season To Remember event every year since the tragedy.

"We attend these celebrations every year to try to give back to all the people that helped us when we first were introduced to this club that we didn't want to belong to," Ed added.

Just this year, Davison County law enforcement said they'd worked at least 100 homicides.

"We look for the new people and we try to greet them so they'll feel comfortable because not everybody has a friend to drag to something like this and it is really hard your first year," Judy said.

The 30th annual memorial service was put on by the District Attorney's Office and the Metro Nashville Police Department (MNPD). Chief John Drake with the MNPD shared his ongoing support for attending families and also hung an ornament to honor officers killed in the line of duty.

"I'm not going to say you don't, every now and then, pop up with a little memory and it brings back those feelings," Judy said. "But it really taught us how to turn that into helping others."

The tree will stay decorated through Jan. 1.
