1 storm-related death reported in Middle Tennessee

*Editor's note: Officials in Rutherford County initially reported a person drowned at around 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 8. However, officials later corrected the report to say the person believed to have drowned is alive and receiving treatment in the hospital. The story below has been updated to reflect this.

MAURY COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) - One person died Wednesday as a result of the severe storms in Middle Tennessee.

Officials with Maury Regional Health confirmed to News 2 one person was killed and four others were injured.

The National Weather Service said a "large, violent" tornado touched down in Maury County near Spring Hill at around 6 p.m. Wednesday.

Maury County Mayor Chaz Molder told News 2 lots of property damage has been reported in the northeast portion of the county. Most of the damage was reported on Cranford Hollow Road, Newt Hoot Road, and Lasea Road.

Molder also told News 2 a woman was inside her home when a tree fell on it. Police and fire crews are working to free her and it is unclear if she was one of the four people injured.

The Tennessee Emergency Management Agency also confirmed one storm-related death in Claiborne County.

No other information was released.
