MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WKRN) — One Murfreesboro Boy Scout troop reported the theft of nearly 100 trees from a lot used in an annual fundraising sale.
Boy Scout Association Troop 197 hosts an annual fundraiser chartered by Fellowship United Methodist Church — the only fundraiser for the troop all year. The fundraiser has gone on for 19 years.
However, in a Facebook post, the troop said thieves came in the middle of the night Sunday, disabled security cameras and stole 98 trees from the lot.
"What a disappointment for young men learning moral values and service to all," the post reads, in part. "We have about 100 trees left to sell before we close out the season and we are desperately hoping to come out ahead, since we didn’t raise prices in these economic times."
Phillip MacDonald with the troop told News 2 that area tree lots have reached out to help the troop and they have taken immediate countermeasures to secure the trees remaining in the lot. He added the troop appreciates all the support they've receive from the community.
You can support the troop by stopping by the tree lot in front of Fellowship United Methodist Church. Donations are also welcome and can be mailed to BSA Troop 197, Fellowship UMC, 2511 New Salem Hwy, Murfreesboro, TN 37128. You can also send donations via Venmo to @treasurer197.
