MT. JULIET, Tenn. (WKRN) — A kidnapping suspect was taken into custody early Friday morning after a pursuit through multiple counties ended in Mt. Juliet.
Mt. Juliet police reported the incident began in Nashville when a man holding a woman against her will was pursued into Rutherford County where he hit a law enforcement vehicle and drove away.
According to court documents, 31-year-old Eddie Martinez was waiting outside the victim's work on Donelson Pike and jumped in the driver's seat and took her keys when she went out to her vehicle to get a water bottle.
The victim and Martinez were acquaintances but had not seen each other in several years. Martinez told the victim he was taking her car because he needed to "get away" and "people were after him." She got into the passenger side, hoping to talk him out of taking the vehicle, according to Metro police.

Martinez drove to Smyrna where officers tried to stop him. He reportedly drove away from the officers and hit a Smyrna police car as he drove back into Davidson County.
The victim asked to be let out of the car but Martinez refused to stop. He eventually let the victim out to use a bathroom at a gas station where she found she had a text message from La Vergne police asking to track her phone, according to court documents.
Metro police later located the suspect with the victim near McGavock Pike and pursued their vehicle from Lebanon Road into Wilson County.
Mt. Juliet officers pursued the vehicle and stopped it with spike strips near a gas station on Mt. Juliet Road at Interstate 40 around 1 a.m. Martinez surrendered to officers and the victim was found to be unharmed.
Martinez was taken back to Nashville by Metro police officers. He was booked into the Metro jail and charged with false imprisonment, vehicle theft and evading arrest. His bond was set at $45,500. He was convicted of aggravated robbery and aggravated kidnapping in 2012.
