According to CPD, officers and deputies with the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office (MCSO) were sent to the Walmart in the 1600 block of Ft. Campbell Boulevard at approximately 12:45 p.m. after receiving "several 911 calls" about a shooting that happened inside the store.
When authorities arrived, they reportedly cleared the store, made sure the shooter was not inside the building and searched the parking lot for the individuals who were involved.
Investigators determined Gibson was the primary aggressor in the incident, during which he displayed a firearm. Police said the second individual involved acted in defense of his family.
Gibson sustained "multiple gunshot wounds" and drove himself to Tennova Healthcare, police said. Authorities later added he was transported to Nashville and would be transported to the Montgomery County Jail upon his discharge.
According to Clarksville police, this was not an active shooter situation. All individuals who were involved in the incident are reportedly in contact with police.
As the issue is now pending prosecution, authorities said no further information was available for release.
Anyone with further information on the incident is asked to contact Detective Hauser at 931-648-0656 ext. 5630.
