NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — If you wake up on New Year's Day ready to embrace the cold and kickstart your resolutions, Tennessee State Parks welcome you for a "First Day Hike."
First Day Hikes are held annually by the parks to start their year-long series of hiking events. Officials said that participants of all ages and abilities are invited to embark on a free hike led by park rangers to explore nature and get some exercise.
Most of Tenneessee's 59 parks participate, including many in Middle Tennessee. Here are 10 First Day Hikes happening today:
- One-mile hike through Sgt. Alvin C. York State Historic Park in Pall Mall
- 1.5-mile hike through Burgess Falls State Park in Sparta
- Three-mile hike through Mousetail Landing State Park in Linden
- One-mile hike through Cumberland Mountain State Park in Crossville
- 1.25-mile hike through Henry Horton State Park in Lewisburg
- 2.5-mile hike through Tims Ford State Park in Winchester
- 1.7-mile hike through Rock Island State Park in Rock Island
- Two-mile hike through Standing Stone State Park in Hilham
- 1.4-mile hike through Old Stone Fort State Park in Manchester
- 2.6-mile hike through Fall Creek Falls State Park in Spencer

If you can't make it for the first day hikes, other signature hikes will take place throughout the year, including Spring Hikes, National Trails Day Hikes and After-Thanksgiving Hikes.
