NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Students gathered to protest at Antioch High School less than one week after a deadly shooting on campus.

Just before the school reopened Tuesday, students lined up along Hobson Pike holding signs protesting gun violence.

Signs reading, "Safety and peace should not be privileges" and "I want to attend graduation not funerals" were on display as students echoed chants of, "Kids over guns!"

Signs such as "Forever 16" and "Justice for Josselin" referenced 16-year-old Josselin Corea Escalante, who was killed in the shooting.

Alora Lytle, a senior at Antioch High School who was near the cafeteria during the shooting told News 2, "The reason why we are protesting at Antioch High School is because we have had multiple people, students and non-students, come inside our school with guns. And just now, because one of our students and fellow classmates has passed away, we are just now getting metal detectors."

She expressed concern over safety at the school due to a lack of security and a series of additional threats against the school being investigated by police. She said she was not going back into the school after the protest.

The protest follows a protest Monday at the Capitol, where dozens of students and people affected by gun violence gathered as lawmakers met for the first day of a special legislative session. Escalante's father attended the protest, saying the fight for justice would persist.

Antioch will hold a rally for students at the football field Tuesday at 1 p.m.
