NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — News 2's meteorologists anticipate an active stretch of weather the next few days, with off-and-on rain and thunderstorms due to warming temperatures in recent days. On Wednesday, there will be a chance of severe weather, focused from Wednesday afternoon to early Thursday morning.

The Storm Prediction Center has placed nearly all of Middle Tennessee and Southern Kentucky under a Marginal Risk (level 1 out of 5) for severe storms.

The primary severe weather risks will be wind gusts, heavy rain, and an isolated tornado. A warm front will lift from south to north, and combined with an upper air disturbance, will create a possibility of severe weather in some thunderstorms. The time frame is from 12 p.m. Wednesday to 2 a.m. on Thursday.

Showers will start as early as the morning, but become more numerous by midday as the warm front brings in warmer temperatures. That will provide more strength for storms to increase. Wednesday evening into early Thursday morning, a greater upper air disturbance will support the possible severe storms.

Despite the rain chances, temperatures return to the 60s on Wednesday, and some lower 70s on Thursday. More rain Thursday into early Friday with a cold front passing through. Through Friday, rain amounts near 1 inch in some areas.

Expect more rain Saturday into Sunday, followed by much colder air next week! We'll continue to follow the severe weather risk.
