Motorcyclist dies after colliding with vehicle in South Nashville

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — A motorcyclist has died after colliding with a vehicle Monday evening at a South Nashville intersection, officials said.

According to the Metro Nashville Police Department (MNPD), the crash happened at approximately 6 p.m. on Nolensville Pike at Haywood Lane.

Officials said a preliminary investigation indicates that the motorcyclist —identified as 25-year-old Austin Harrison— was traveling on a Harley Davidson between two outbound lanes at a high rate of speed when he collided into the passenger's side of a Honda, which was making a left turn.

Police added the Honda was facing inbound and had the green light with the green left arrow.

Two female occupants inside the Honda were taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries. The 20-year-old Honda driver was reportedly cited for driving without a license.

Meanwhile, Harrison was also taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where he later died, police said.

According to officials, Harrison was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash and there were no signs of impairment at the scene.

In a statement, the police department urged motorcyclists to "be visible, give yourself space, be aware of other motorists’ blind spots and wear a helmet."
