NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) -- An Antioch Middle School student was taken into custody Tuesday after law enforcement said he made a threat to his teacher that he'd get a gun.

According to the Metro Nashville Police Department, the seventh grader told the school resource officer he was joking because he doesn't have a gun. In addition, officials did not recover a gun when searching the student's backpack.

Authorities said the 12-year-old -- who has a history of talking about guns and joining gangs -- was arrested on Tuesday, Feb. 11 and charged in Juvenile Court with making a false report.

This news comes three weeks after a deadly shooting occurred at Antioch High School. In the aftermath of that incident, at least a dozen students in the Nashville area have been taken into custody for making school threats.

A 17-year-old student at Antioch High School was also charged with making a false report last week after police said he asked a teacher “What if I bring a gun?” and “What if I bomb the school?”

During a meeting on Wednesday, Feb. 5, Metro Nashville Police Chief John Drake sounded the alarm on school safety and highlighted a troubling trend of school threats.
