NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — While many are still cleaning up from Sunday night's severe weather, we are already turning our focus to the next system.
Our next storm system will arrive late on Wednesday. It will bring the threat of severe weather initially, then stall and bring days of heavy rain to parts of the area.
According to Mary Lamm, a hydrologist for the National Weather Service office in Paducah, more than a foot of rain is possible.
"It's kind of scary in a way, with three of our models all wanting to put 10 to 15 inches of rain over the same area," said Lamm.
According to Lamm, this much rain will cause rivers to rise above their banks and lead to water over roadways. Lamm said the areas that will see the most rain are north and west of Nashville. These are the same areas that saw some of the worst flooding earlier this year. "A lot of it could be fairly similar to what we experienced back in mid-February. Our amounts are actually higher than what we had back in mid-February, but it's going to be spread over four days."
Lamm said there were several people that lost their lives from driving through flooded roads earlier this year, and she doesn't want that to happen again. She said turning around is easy and can save your life.
She also said that now is the time to clear your drains and ditches of debris.
The National Weather Service has already issued a flood watch for parts of the area. The rain is expected to begin late on Wednesday and continue through the weekend.
