BEDFORD COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) — The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is investigating reports of an officer-involved shooting in Bedford County.
A spokesperson for the agency told News 2 that at the request of 17th Judicial District Attorney General Rob Carter, special agents responded to a report in the area of State Road 64 in Shelbyville.
A press release from the TBI said two Bedford County deputies responded to a 911 call about a suicidal person allegedly making threats. Officers found the person walking along the 2000 block of State Route 64 in Shelbyville.
"As deputies spoke with the man, he began yelling and produced first a knife, and then what appeared to be a handgun," a press release from the TBI reads, in part. "Reports from the scene indicate officers fired at the man, striking him."
After he was struck, the man was transported to a Nashville hospital via helicopter. As of publication, that man was in stable condition. The TBI said no officers were harmed as a result of the incident.
Erin Zeigler, a spokesperson for the Tennessee Department of Transportation, posted to social media that State Route 64 was closed in both directions due to the investigation.
The Bedford County Sheriff's Office deferred to the TBI for details and had no further comment.
