Homicide investigation underway in Columbia

MAURY COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) — A homicide investigation is underway after a man was run over and killed in Columbia Monday morning.

Officers were called to the 1100 block of Trotwood Avenue for a man lying on the ground.

They found 51-year-old Thomas Deon Braden injured and unresponsive in the parking lot, according to a release. Braden died from his injuries at the scene.

Investigators believe an altercation occurred between Braden and 39-year-old Gerardo Mendoza Rodriquez at a convenience store a short distance away. According to Columbia police, Braden walked away from the altercation and Mendoza-Rodriquez ran into Braden with his vehicle, killing him.

Mendoza Rodriquez was taken into custody and charged with 1st-degree murder and aggravated assault resulting in death and driving on a suspended license in connection with this incident.

No additional information was immediately released.
