NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) - A teen was shot at a park in Madison Wednesday afternoon. A tweet from MNPD indicated that Justin Robinson, 16, died from his injuries.
Robinson was at Skyline Medical Center when he died. The investigation is still ongoing, per the post, and MNPD urged anyone with information to come forward.
"Tonight we mourn the loss of another teenager to gun violence — this time in Madison," a statement from Nashville mayor Freddie O'Connell read. "I am grateful to our first responders, Parks staff, and witnesses who assisted the victim and kept others safe. There's no one answer, but we have many partners committed to improving safety for our young people."
The shooting happened just after 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 12 in the 500 block of North Dupont Avenue.
Metro police said a witness at the scene told officers there was a group of six minors in the park and two of them shot at each other. However, the teen who was shot was not at the scene when officers arrived.
Witnesses told officers the victim got into a gold-colored car and left. Officers found the car and got behind it as it was approaching TriStar Skyline Medical Center, according to investigators.
Police said the victim, who was shot in the chest, was taken inside the hospital to be treated for serious injuries.
The gold colored vehicle and the people inside the vehicle are currently being detained at the hospital. Officers at the park are still looking for the other minors who ran away after the shooting.
No other information was released.
