NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — A license plate aimed to support animals could soon be an option for drivers in Tennessee.

Currently, there are more than 100 specialty plates to choose from to display on the rear of your vehicle in Tennessee.

The Nashville Humane Association (NHA) said it is looking to join the list after it was recently given the opportunity to have its own specialty plate.

However, in order for the plate to go into production at least 1,000 Tennessee residents will need to sign up.

According to the animal shelter, those who sign up will be asked to contribute a $35 donation, which will cover the cost of both the license plate and a generous donation to NHA.

Funds raised from the specialty plate will go directly toward NHA's Darcy Lashinky Community Pet Food Bank.

In a statement, the shelter said the food bank program "has been a vital support system for our community's pet owner's, ensuring that beloved pets receive the care they deserve, even in times of financial strain."
