GREENBRIER, Tenn. (WKRN) -- Authorities spent hours working to track down a man following a Friday evening shooting involving a member of the Greenbrier Police Department.

At the request of 19th Judicial District Attorney General Robert Nash, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) said its special agents are investigating the incident from Friday, June 28, which, based on preliminary information, happened after a traffic stop in the 100 block of Candy Lane.

A Greenbrier police officer stopped a Nissan Maxima, but the driver allegedly fled and tried to hit the officer after a female passenger got out of the vehicle. The officer shot at the car, but as of this writing, it's unclear whether the gunfire hit the car or the driver, according to officials.

Around 12:45 p.m. on Saturday, June 28, the TBI asked for the public’s help to find 22-year-old Jalon Devon Smith. During the incident, authorities said Smith was driving a blue 2009 Nissan Maxima with Tennessee tag 550-BMRL.

Then, just after 4:30 p.m., the TBI updated its statement, saying both Smith and his vehicle had been located. However, the investigation into the shooting is still ongoing.

"TBI agents are working to independently determine the series of events leading to the shooting, including collecting evidence and conducting interviews. Throughout the process, investigative findings will be shared with the District Attorney General for his further review and consideration," the bureau said in a statement on Saturday, June 29. "The TBI acts solely as fact-finders in its cases and does not determine whether the actions of an officer were justified in these types of matters. That decision rests with the District Attorney General requesting TBI’s involvement."

No additional details have been released about this incident, including the identity of the officer involved in it.
