NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — A suspected drunk driver was arrested over the weekend following a crash that left three children "significantly injured" in East Nashville.
According to court documents, officers were called to the intersection of Ellington Parkway North and Douglas Avenue on Saturday, June 29 to respond to a crash.
When officers arrived on scene, they reportedly approached one of the drivers involved -- identified as 20-year-old Balvino De La Cruz -- and asked him how much he had to drink.
Authorities reported De La Cruz changed his answer several times, but later admitted to having five alcoholic drinks.
Witnesses allegedly told police that De La Cruz was driving in the wrong direction before the crash occurred.
An arrest report states officers attempted to conduct a series of field sobriety testing but had to stop due to De La Cruz's "extreme intoxication."

De la Cruz reportedly had mumbled speech, smelled strongly of an alcoholic beverage, was unable to keep his balance, and was puking frequently at the scene.
Police said four individuals in another vehicle were all taken to a local hospital. Three of the four, who were children as young as two years old, all sustained "significant injuries," officials said.
Court records show that at least two of the kids have concussions and one possibly has a broken finger.
According to authorities, a sample of De La Cruz's blood was collected at General Hospital. A records check reportedly showed that he only had a temporary learners permit.
He was charged with two counts of vehicular assault, consumption of alcohol under 21 years old and driving without a license.
De La Cruz remains in Metro Jail on a $40,500 bond.
