SUMNER COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) - Newly obtained court documents reveal what evidence police gathered that lead to an arrest in connection with the death of 17-year-old Trinity Bostic from Macon County.
According to police, Bostic went missing on June 29.
Four days later, a subcontractor with the Tennessee Department of Transportation was picking up trash and found her remains in the woods near Vietnam Veteran's Boulevard near New Shackle Road.
Police said they were able to identify Bostic using dental records and added she was found with a bullet wound in her face.
Hendersonville police have named 17-year-old Fernando Perales Mejia as the suspect.
According to court documents, phone records show Mejia and Bostic were together from around 2:30 p.m. to 10:39 p.m. the day Bostic went missing.
Those same phone records also show Bostic and Mejia around the area where Bostic was found during that time frame.
Police searched Mejia's home and found a "go bag" with Mejia's things and a loaded gun in his closest.
Law enforcement also found a gun in Mejia's car and said the gun's ammunition matched the bullet casings found at the scene.
Mejia originally told police he hadn't seen Bostic in two years, but when police showed him the evidence they have, he changed his story "multiple times."
During a scheduled detention hearing on Thursday, July 11, Mejia's attorney waived his client's right to appear in court and to a detention hearing.
Before the hearing, Mejia's father told News 2 he couldn't have imagined his son did this and hasn't neen able to sleep since his son's arrest.
Other member's of Mejia's family were also there as well as Bostic's sister.
Friends described Bostic as a "firecracker" who had the ability to light up a room.
The next scheduled court date for this case is set for late August.
