CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WKRN) — Some say chivalry is dead, but in several Tennessee cities, you can still find plenty of true Southern gentlemen, according to a new survey.
"Since the dawn of dating apps, single women have frequently voiced their frustrations over the crudeness of some men who use these platforms. Old-fashioned manners and chivalry have seemingly been replaced by requests for racy pictures," a press release about the survey stated. "However, despite the criticism, there are still men who embody traditional manners online, and DatingNews.com was determined to discover where these gentlemen are most prevalent!"
DatingNews.com surveyed 3,000 singles to find out where the most charming men—the ones who would open doors, plan thoughtful dates, and engage in respectful conversations—live.
The organization said the Volunteer State's most chivalrous men reside in the following cities:
- Chattanooga

"The men of Chattanooga are known for their warm smiles, genuine hospitality, and the little acts of kindness that make a big difference. From holding doors open to offering a helping hand, the chivalrous spirit here is alive and well," the press release said. "Perhaps it's the Southern charm or the strong sense of community, but one thing is clear: in Chattanooga, chivalry is not just an old-fashioned concept but a way of life."

- Murfreesboro
- Men from Murfreesboro bring a sense of calm and friendliness to every interaction, ensuring others feel at ease.

In addition to gathering geographic data, DatingNews.com also explored women's expectations of modern gentlemen. According to the survey, the most appreciated date behavior includes engaging in respectful and meaningful conversations (43%), planning thoughtful and creative dates (18%), and offering genuine compliments (14%), opening doors for them (12%), and exhibiting punctuality and consideration for their time (12%).
The organization said 56% of the respondents believe chivalry is "very important," 41% consider it "moderately important," and only 2% attach little importance to it.
When asked to identify traits that best represent a "mannered man," survey participants gave the following answers to DatingNews.com:
- Patience and understanding: 32%
- Politeness and respect: 31%
- Thoughtfulness and consideration: 19%
- Good communication skills: 14%
- Humility and modesty: 4%
However, 36% of women reported frequently encountering impolite men on dating apps, per the organization.
