DAVIDSON COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) — A Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) employee was reportedly hit while picking up litter on the side of Interstate 65.

Erin Ziegler, TDOT regional communications officer, originally posted to social media that a pedestrian had been hit near Crieve Hall at mile marker 76 on Interstate 65 North.

In an update posted just before 3 p.m., Ziegler revealed that the pedestrian hit was a contracted TDOT employee that had been picking up bags of previously collected litter on the shoulder.

"The victim has critical injuries and we are praying for their recovery," Ziegler added. "MNPD is investigating."

No other immediate details about the incident were released. State data shows that within the first six months of 2024, Davidson County saw 108 pedestrian crashes.
