NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Metro Animal Care and Control (MACC) and Pets Community Center (PCC) work together to help reduce the number of animals in shelters and to make sure those who have pets are happy, healthy and taken care of.

There are many success stories from the partnership, including the story of Boss, a sweet boy adopted from MACC. "He's seven-years-old and we adopted him in 2022," said Angela Hicks Morgan. "He was heartworm positive and he was very abused. He's had a hard life, he really has."

That "hard life" is something Angela can relate to. "I have PTSD, I'm a domestic violence survivor and I'm scared of everything," she told News 2.

When Angela adopted Boss from MACC, it wasn't just her saving him — they saved each other. "Just being scared myself, all the time, he's my everything," said Angela.

Boss was in distress at MACC. He was heartworm positive and needed a home. Angela knew he was meant for her right away.

However, vet care is expensive and Angela was on fixed income, but that's where PCC stepped in. In fact, PCC is Nashville's only non-profit veterinary center and believes everyone should be able to know the love and joy of having a pet, no matter their financial circumstances.

"I reached out to them and they gave me discounted medicines and discounted vaccines. It's a vet for poor people and they don't judge you. They don't treat you like anything but good humans that want to love their pets," said Angela.

In fact, Boss needed heartworm treatment and thanks MACC's & PCC's heartworm positive program, it was free.

"Our partnership with MACC is very valuable to the community. Any pet adopted there that has heartworms can receive free treatment." said Brandon Dyce, the President and CEO of the Pet Community Center. "In the past, that was a very big barrier for those animals even being candidates for adoptions."

Boss was the perfect candidate for the program. "So whenever we pulled up to do it, they came out and they said, 'MACC gonna cover the cost,'" remembered Angela. "I just cried, because that is a blessing in of itself. You know, that gives me more money to be able to spoil him."

And spoil him she does, "I don't know what I do without him. He's my big goober."
