AirTag helps track suspect after robbery in Donelson

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — One suspect was arrested in connection to an aggravated robbery after an Apple air tag allowed police to track the live location of a stolen vehicle.

According to an arrest warrant, the victim arrived at his home off Elm Hill Pike on Saturday, Aug. 17 when two men wearing ski masks approached him and pointed guns at him as he was getting out of his Infiniti Q50.

The warrant stated the victim laid on the ground to be compliant with the suspects' requests. The two men were then captured on surveillance video camera going through the victim's pockets, taking his cell phone and car keys.

One of the men got into the drivers seat of the victim's vehicle. The other man pistol-whipped the victim in the head before getting into the passenger side, according to court documents.

The victim was able to provide officers with the active location of his vehicle due to an Apple AirTag he had placed inside. Officers then tracked the vehicle to a location where it had been parked for a period of time.

Upon finding the vehicle in an alleyway behind a home in North Nashville, officers reportedly saw Dartazz Beach, 20, standing next to the stolen vehicle. According to the report, Beach matched the build and clothing description of one of the suspects who was seen in video camera footage from the incident.

Beach then got into a different vehicle and drove away from the scene where the victim's car was parked, according to Metro police.

Officers followed Beach to Madison, where they conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle he was driving. During a search of Beach and the vehicle, officers reportedly found a ski mask, guns, ammunition, marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

During an interview with police, Beach stated he did not know how the victims' car got to the home.

Beach was booked into the Metro jai and charged with aggravated robbery, felon weapon possession and drug possession. His bond was set at $277,000.
