FRANKLIN, Tenn. (WKRN) -- Due to drought conditions in the region, an Emergency Status 1 Water Shortage has been declared in the City of Franklin Water Utility District.
Officials announced the shortage on Wednesday, Sept. 4, stating the city serves approximately 18,500 customers in the Franklin area, but many residents use other utilities for their water service.
While community members are asked to conserve water amid the drought conditions, the city described "non-essential emergency status one water uses" as the following:
- Washing sidewalks, driveways, and other exterior paved areas except those handled by the city in the interest of public safety
- Filling or refilling swimming pools
- Noncommercial washing of vehicles and boats
- Using a fire hydrant for reasons besides fighting fires and ensuring adequate water quality in the distribution system
- Watering golf courses
- Controlling or compacting dust during construction
According to Franklin, these restrictions will be enforced until further notice. Updates will be available through the city's website and social media.
"Emergency Status 1 was declared by Mayor Ken Moore based on trigger points established through the municipal code and the City of Franklin Drought Management Plan," officials said in a statement on Wednesday.
