Lebanon Fire Department helps rescue dog from sinkhole

WILSON COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) — The Lebanon Fire Department and the Wilson County Emergency Management Agency came to the rescue after a dog fell into a sinkhole this week.

A Facebook post from the Lebanon Fire Department said that the dog had reportedly been in the 18 to 20 feet deep sinkhole on Beasleys Bend Road for about three days.

Personnel with the Lebanon Fire Department set up a rope system to lower a firefighter into the sinkhole and assess its stability to determine what tools would be needed for the rescue.

The dog then reportedly dropped off another leg and was seven or eight feet below the firefighter's position.

"After about 2 hours of digging and attempting to get a dog catching pole on the dog the firefighter was successful. JoJo was then placed in a gear bag and pulled to safety and reunited with his owners," the post added. "The firefighter was then pulled up out of the hole. Successful rescue and team effort by all personnel on scene."
