SPRINGFIELD, Tenn. (WKRN) — The historic Dr. Martin Walton House is a historic home listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Also known as the Cook-Tate Home or "The Friend by the Side of the Road," the Dr. Martin Walton House has stood since 1809 after Walton moved to Robertson County in 1802.
But there have been some strange happenings in this house!
"Our security guard, when he's here, a lot of the times he's outside and he'll hear doors slam inside," historian for the Dr. Martin Walton House, Heather Carver, told News 2. "He'll go and check it out and none of the doors are opened or closed. He'll hear things from inside the house when he's outside or outside the house when he's inside. People that are here often hear things on different floors when there's nobody else here. Our staff hears things. Everybody's always hearing something that's not there."
Carver added that doorbell surveillance footage alerted staff to the presence of a person in April 2023 — but when they checked the camera, they only saw a pale, ghostly apparition float through ab exterior wall. Months later, people have reported seeing similar apparitions.
"We really can't explain what it was," Carver said. "A ghost — something!"
There have been other happenings of battery powered lights going on and off when there were no batteries in them.
The Dr. Martin House is free to visit and contains a museum going over the home's rich history.
