MNPD works to identify suspects after several bus shelters vandalized along 12th Avenue South

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Detectives are working to identify suspects accused of vandalizing several WeGo bus shelters across Davidson County.

According to the Metro Nashville Police Department (MNPD), the incident took place at approximately 10:20 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 24 along 12th Avenue South near Wedgewood Avenue.

Authorities reported surveillance footage captured glass shatter at the bus stop as a red sedan drove by. There were reportedly several bus shelters vandalized along 12th Avenue South that same night.

However, police say this is not the first time the red sedan has been connected to vandalism incidents involving WeGo bus shelters.

In September, MNPD and WeGo Public Transit officials searched to find answers after dozens of bus stop windows were found smashed. During that time, a News 2 crew drove for miles along Gallatin Pike and observed damage at stops on Douglas Avenue, West Greenwood Avenue and Main Street.

The problem is part of a costly crime involving WeGo property. "Each glass panel is several hundred dollars," Eric Melcher, the public information officer for WeGo told News 2 in September.

Police believe the occupants in the red sedan use an airsoft gun to damage glass at the bus stops.

Anyone with information about the vehicle and its occupants is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 615-742-7463. Callers can remain anonymous and qualify for a cash reward.
