'This type of activity is not going to be tolerated in the city': Multiple people, including teens, charged with vandalism in Spring Hill

SPRING HILL, Tenn. (WKRN) — Spring Hill authorities said that some vandalism incidents within the past week could be related to a rivalry football game between two Williamson County high schools.

Eight minors face serious criminal charges after Spring Hill police said that they vandalized at least two homes. Two others — who are of legal age — have warrants pending for their arrest.

On Tuesday, there was panic in one Spring Hill neighborhood.

"Everyone came out because it was so loud," resident Seana Arrechaga said. "I thought a house exploded."

Police said that the vandalism could relate to a rivalry between Summit High School and Independence High School. The schools have a rivalry football game on Friday.

"It was like rolling noises and then — boom!" Arrechaga said. "Then, they sounded like grown men laughing — screaming, and then silence."

Michael Foster, a lieutenant with the Spring Hill Police Department, said that there is a fine line between fun and frightening. Foster added that the vandals did not seem to stop with fireworks. Body camera footage from an officer at the scene of another victim's home showed evidence of a second incident.

"A lot of eggs being thrown at a house and vehicles," Foster added. "A chain was wrapped around a tire. Several whistles were dropped in the yards that don't go off and just keep going."

After officers caught up with the suspects, eight minors were taken to the Williamson County Detention Center. Officers issued warrants for the others involved.

"We wanted to send a message that this type of activity is not going to be tolerated in the city," Foster said.

These teens may think this is in all good fun but police say the damage is over a thousand dollars.

"These children need to learn there are going to be consequences and last night was a huge consequence," Arrechaga added. "I will say that the police that I talked to were very upset."

The public information officer for Williamson County Schools told News 2 that they were not public aware of this situation.
