NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — A 16-year-old boy has died after a shooting at a WeGo bus station in Nashville, according to the Metro Nashville Police Department (MNPD).
Authorities responded to a shots fired call reported in the 400 block of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard shortly after 4 p.m. on Tuesday. Investigators believe shooting appeared to be targeted. Apparently, the shooting was the result of an ongoing dispute between two parties.
The victim was identified as 16-year-old Braden Caldwell. He died at Vanderbilt University Medical Center's Pediatrics. The suspected shooter was identified as 15-year-old Shamari Bailey, who was taken into custody at an apartment on University County around 7:30 p.m.
At 4:45 p.m., WeGo posted to X all bays on the Upper Level of the Elizabeth Duff Transit Center at WeGo Central were closed. Service did not resume on the Upper Level until minutes after 8 p.m., according to WeGo's announcement.
At 5:43 p.m., the MNPD posted to X the shooting occurred between two apparent teens on the second story of the bus station. Police added that the suspect fled ran away wearing a black hoodie and "Christmas sweats."

In a press conference conducted just before 6 p.m., police said homicide detectives and Specialized Investigations TITANS detectives were working on the case. Police also stated that the victim was shot twice and that there were multiple witnesses, including a security guard.
"WeGo has a robust amount of security guards that are here and present, especially in these transient hours of the commuting afternoons and evenings," MNPD spokesperson Brooke Reese said at the press conference. "There is about 15,000 people that come in through this station every single say, so security is definitely a main priority for WeGo and the police department."
