NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Pedal taverns can run during rush hour in Nashville, but the Transportation Licensing Commission (TLC) voted Thursday that they must report any route deviations in a timely fashion.

In August, the commission held a public meeting discussing the possibility of allowing pedal taverns to operate on pre-approved routes in Nashville. The commission ultimately passed the rule allowing pedal vehicles to operate between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. at their September meeting.

In Thursday's meeting, the TLC unanimously added a line that would make pedal vehicle operators have to log and report any deviation from approved routes within 72 hours. Any company that had previously submitted a route for consideration would be notified of Thursday's rule change, according to the TLC.

The TLC did not vote on any routes at Thursday's meeting, but the commission did discuss the potential consequences of some of the submitted routes. Several attendees expressed concerns about not only impacts on traffic, but on the effects of noise for those working downtown.

"Just because it's a submitted route that says, 'This is what we're going to do,' or 'This is what we want to do,' does not mean it's going to be approved by Engineering," interim TLC director Richard Rooker said at Thursday's meeting. "They look at it very closely and if it has any impact...they will definitely not approve this route."
