Caretaker charged after infant overdoses on fentanyl in South Nashville hotel room

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — A 38-year-old woman was arrested Wednesday after a 7-month-old baby overdosed on fentanyl in December 2023.

Officers were called to a South Nashville hotel room after a baby girl was found unresponsive on Dec. 7, 2023.

While the baby was being taken to the emergency room, she reportedly had to be revived with Narcan.

According to court documents, Francine Hammonds admitted to detectives she and a friend snorted heroin inside the hotel room a few days before the overdose.

Officers searched the room and found an electronic scale and white powder residue inside the room. Court documents state the baby's lab results were positive for fentanyl and metabolite Norfentanyl.

Hammonds was booked into the Metro jail and charged with child endangerment. Her bond was set at $65,000.
