RUTHERFORD COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) — Deputies with the Rutherford County Sheriff's Office (RCSO) said they convinced a man who barricaded himself and threatened to kill two women to surrender on Wednesday.
According to a social media post from the sheriff's office, deputies responded to a home on Barfield Crescent Road after a woman screamed for help. Once they arrived, they learned 24-year-old Zykaria Velazquez reportedly threatened to kill two women in the home before barricading himself at the address.
Both victims were examined by Rutherford County Emergency Medical Services and Rutherford County Fire Rescue and escaped unharmed, officials said.
“There were no apparent injuries to the suspect, victim or deputies during the incident,” Cpl. Daniel McGee with the RCSO reported.
The RCSO negotiations team was able to contact Velazquez and persuade him to leave the residence.
Velazquez has been charged with two counts of felony aggravated domestic assault and interfering with an emergency 911 call, the RCSO said. Velazquez is being held on a $32,000 bond at the Rutherford County Adult Detention Center.
He is scheduled to appear in court Jan. 14, 2025.
