NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — A 37-year-old man is accused of stealing a Ford pickup truck from a South Nashville car dealership by using a Metro police officer's traffic vest stolen from a Metro police cruiser on the lot.
Metro police reported Scott Carter stole a Ford F250 from a dealership on Foster Avenue on Tuesday, Nov. 26.
According to court documents, Carter was seen on surveillance footage entering multiple vehicles on the lot, including two police vehicles. He reportedly first tried to steal an F150 using a spare key inside the truck before abandoning it to take a F250.
Carter wore a vest stolen from a Metro police officer's cruiser to get the truck keys from an employee, according to Metro police.

Officials reported Carter then drove away from the dealership by ramming a portion of a fence. Court documents note the dealership has clearly posted "no trespassing signs" and an electric fence.
On Wednesday, officers saw the stolen F250 near Nolensville Road and Thompson Lane. The Metro police helicopter followed the truck to Miller Street where officers confronted Carter and took him into custody after he tried to run away.
Carter was booked into the Metro jail and charged with misdemeanor drug possession and evading arrest in addition to felony vehicle theft. His bond was set at $32,000.
