NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — A shooting along Murfreesboro Pike early Sunday morning sent three young women to the hospital, one of whom didn't survive. This incident raised some concerns among members of the South Nashville community.
The Metro Nashville Police Department (MNPD) said the shooting happened outside an "after-hours club" in the 900 block of Murfreesboro Pike around 5:30 a.m. on Sunday, Dec. 1.
"It sounded like cannon fire. I mean, it was so loud, I mean, you could hear the reverberations off the buildings," said Daniel Holmes, who lives near the scene of the shooting.
Holmes said he heard six or seven shots that sounded like explosions.
"It wasn't normal guns. I mean, it had to be larger-sized weapons," he added.
According to authorities, witnesses said a heated argument outside the club led to shots being fired at a car containing five people. The driver reportedly traveled down the street and pulled into an office building parking lot in the 1300 block of Murfreesboro Pike after realizing three women in the vehicle had been injured.
"They need some more presence of police out here, like undercover, just people moving around and just getting an idea of what's going on," said Holmes.
Police said 18- year-old Ashley Dominguez, who was in the backseat of the car during the shooting, and two 19-year-old women were brought to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, but Dominguez died at the hospital.
Kennedi Lamb, who moved to the area about two weeks ago, said she doesn't walk around at night because she doesn't feel safe.
"I have stuff in my purse to help me, but nothing too bad, like pepper spray and all that…I try and dress as unappeasing as possible," she said.
By Sunday evening, officials said the two 19-year-olds injured in the shooting had been treated and released from VUMC. Meanwhile, homicide detectives have interviewed multiple people as they continue to investigate this incident.
